Phone: (818) 523-2650 Sina Aghassy has been Chatsworth HS Volleyball Head Coach since 2015. In his first year, Coach Sina helped the Boys Program reach a Semifinal finish where they fell to eventual champion Taft HS. In the 2015 girls season with the Girls Program, Aghassy helped lead the team to a #1 seed & a sweep of #3 Venice HS in the 2015 CIF LA Div. 2 City Finals. Bringing home the first City Championship in the Girls Program since 21 years! He was also selected as the CIF LA City Section Division 2 Coach of the Year during the 2015 Season. During 2016, Coach Sina guided the Boys Program to a #1 Seed and to the 2016 Div. 2 CIF LA City Section Championship. In the finals, Chatsworth swept #3 Eagle Rock to capture the first City Championship since 2005. To add, Coach Aghassy was also selected as the 2016 Boys Coach of the Year. Coach Aghassy also won the 2016 Open Division CIF LA City Section Girls Volleyball Coach of the Year award as he guided the 2016 team to an Open Division Quarterfinal Finish as the #4 Seed and a State Quarterfinal Finish. In 2017, he guided the boys to a Semifinal Finish after falling to eventual champion Palisades. With the girls in 2017, Coach Sina guided the girls to their a CIF LA City Section Division 1 Championship as #1 Chatsworth defeated #2 Sylmar in 3 sets; marking the 3rd City Championship in his tenure. In 2018, the Boys were able to move up to the Inaugural Open Division in the CIF LA City Section Playoffs as the #2 Seed and advancing to the Open Division Finals after defeating #3 Granada Hills. The Chancellors saw their season end to #1 Palisades as they finished as the CIF LA City Section Open Division Runner Ups & at (40-6-1) Overall which is the highest in school history. In 2018 with the Girls, the team made it back to the CIF LA City Section Open Division finishing (33-18) winning the Camarillo Cam Classic Tournament then falling to eventual champion Palisades. The team however saw their first CIF State Playoff victory upsetting Ocean View HS for the first time in school history. In 2019 the boys team made it back to Open finishing in the Semi-Finals where they fell to eventual champions Palisades HS. In 2019, the girls were guided to their 5th City Championship in Division 1 over Venice HS in 5 sets. Aghassy won his fourth during his time at Chatsworth and his fourth Coach of they Year Award. In 2020 Sina was selected as an AVCA 30 under Thirty selection which recognizes the top coaches in the country & in 2021 he was recognized as the NFHS State Volleyball Coach of the Year. In 2021 he guided the Boys Team to a (15-0) record and the first Open Division Championship over Taft where he was selected as the Coach of the Year. In 2023, he lead the program to yet another Boys Open Division over Palisades HS in a (3-0) sweep and a (40-9) Overall Record. Prior to coaching at Chatsworth Charter High School, Aghassy spent three seasons coaching at Poly HS where he lead the boys and girls to the playoffs each season and as far as the semifinals in the Division 1 Playoffs for the girls. He spent his playing career prepping at Taft HS in Woodland Hills, California as a Libero for the Toreadors and coach Arman Mercado; as well as playing libero and outside hitter for the prestigious Santa Monica Boy's Volleyball Club in high school. After graduating high school in 2010, he spent one season at the University of Hawai'i to play volleyball while redshirting as a true freshman in 2011; and later transferring to start at libero at Cal State University of Northridge in 2012. Along with his playing career, he has seen coaching opportunities at schools such as Poly, Taft, Sierra Canyon, & Crespi Carmelite. While Coach Aghassy is still in his first few seasons here at Chatsworth HS, he is striving to continue to push for the success for the whole program and the ability to compete for a championship year in and year out. |
Alex Sanchez
Assistant Coach
Coach Alex is entering his fourth season as an Assistant Coach at the Chatsworth Charter HS. Alex prepped at Notre Dame HS where he was a standout player, as well as playing for the prestigious Santa Monica Volleyball Club. He later went onto Pierce College to continue his playing career while playing under Head Coach Lance Walker. Alex also coaches at Elite Volleyball Club where he helps develop many young volleyball players locally in Chatsworth. His high volleyball IQ and dedication to helping players learn the sport are valuable to the CHS Volleyball Program. His first season included leading the 2015 Girls Chatsworth FS Program along with assisting with the Varsity Team in their successful run that season to win the 2015 CIF Div. 2 LA City Championship. His second season ended with the Boys Program capturing their 8th City Championship and first since 2005 as he assisted the Varsity. In his fourth season, Alex helped guide the FS team to a 21-9-2 Overall Record and assisted in the 2017 CIF Div. 1 LA City Championship with the Varsity team. In 2019, he was also a pivotal part in the Chancellors Division 1 City Championship in 5 sets over Venice HS. |
